Using Music with Confidence
Workshop Presenter: Dr Jason Kenner, Registered Music Therapist (RMT)
Date: Monday 9 August
Time: 1230 – 1430
Overview:
This workshop is designed for allied health professionals from any discipline who are interested in using pre-recorded music in their work. A simple framework will be presented that provides a structure for evaluating music. While intuitively, we can make good choices when choosing music for exercise, motivation, or relaxation; having a framework that is based on evidence and theory allows practitioners to feel confident when choosing music to use in sessions. Participants do not need any previous music skills to benefit from this workshop. While this workshop is structured around the use of music with clients, the skills gained can be applied to personal music listening for self-care.
While this workshop is not intended to teach ‘music therapy’ skills, it does provide a framework for anyone who would like to make more use of music within their own discipline.
The workshop will include some theory, some listening, and activities for breakout groups. Participants will create simple playlists to practice the skills during the workshop.
